I designed the visual user interface and icon for the iPhone application Emoji Enabler. The application needed a simple but user friendly interface from which to enable the use of Emoji icons on their device.

The linen texture was inspired by recent developments in the official Apple iOS theme and also a trend towards this kind of texture being used in the new OS X ‘Lion’. The icon aimed to present a grid of four Emoji Icons in the simplest but most characteristic form possible. Whilst a minimalistic grey-gloss square was considered, we agreed that we’d try a ‘wooden shelf’ approach.

iOyster came to me to design and construct a static XHTML/CSS website for their new iPhone application. The splash page used heavy JavaScript scripting including an image carousel, ajax insta-loading tab navigation and a dynamic twitter feed.

Other developments were the inclusion of heavy Twitter and Facebook integration tools, a dynamic accordion script installation for the Support area and a PHP contact form for quick querying. The website was designed in conjunction with the already existing iOyster UI and follows Apple-esque colour palettes and typefaces.

Diablo Forum is a phpBB powered forum built for the Diablo community. DF was a personal side project I decided to start before the D3 beta release and is still active today.

The website is a heavily modded phpBB build. Some key features are the integration of an ‘achievements’ system of sorts to encourage active community involvement, as well as a tied-in points system for the purchasing of better avatars and titles. Design-wise, I wanted DF to be as minimal, user friendly and functional as possible, whilst still maintaining a menacing look. We plan to add a new ‘Guides’ section devoted to strategy sharing in the Diablo community.

Mike Watson hired me to design a website for his second home in southern France. The main features of the website were its gallery of photos, and an interactive ‘Directions’ page for new occupants to use.

With the help of my colleague Michael Silas, we set up a simple back-end system for Mike to use whenever he wanted to edit the text or images on any page. The slideshow uses Javascript and PHP, and the design was done in valid XHTML and CSS.

This was my second job out in the wild, and I had a great time putting it together. Mike now uses the website as a point of information and contact for any potential residents.

La Bergerie is online. If you’d like to have a look at the full website, please follow this link.

“We commissioned Eureka to create both the styled design and functional operation of our new corporate website really from nothing, just a few content ideas and some product photos. We were absolutely delighted with the website result which was first rate. Our overseas sales partners have also commented favourably upon the new website Eureka produced. The design and development process was carried out professionally with prompt and thorough responses. We continue to use Eureka for other design work both on and off the web and can provide a thorough recommendation.”- Dr. John Drinkwater, Holographic Security Innovations Limited

The website aimed to provide a basic point of contact, some general information on the company and most importantly to advertise its various services and products. The task was challenging in that I had little experience of professional work at the time, though with the patience and creative input provided by John we collaborated to finish what was one of my first jobs out in the field. John’s kind testimonial can be read below.
